Donald H. MacDonald

Danvers - Donald H. MacDonald, 94, of Danvers, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on November 7, 2020. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Calder) MacDonald.
Born in Boston on Oct. 28, 1926, he was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Corregidor.
Mr. MacDonald was a member of the Massachusetts State Police, serving for 25 years and retiring with the rank of Captain. Following his retirement, he worked in Unicorn Park in Woburn as a building superintendent which he enjoyed until his retirement.
A longtime Danvers resident, he loved working on projects around his home. He was also proud to be a Mason and was a member of the Mount Vernon Lodge in Malden for many years.
His favorite thing to do was fly Ultralights and he was a member of the Ultralight Flyers Club on Plum Island in Newburyport. For 17 years, he wrote the monthly Ultralight newsletter. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, sister, and brother-in-law, and spend time with family at Loon Mountain at the Highland Games each September.
He is survived by five children, Garry MacDonald of Danvers, Heather Oakes of Hampton, N.H., Mark MacDonald and his wife Deidre of Rotonda West, Fla., Stuart MacDonald and his wife Biwei of Salem, N.H., and Douglas MacDonald and his wife Paula of Amesbury; four grandchildren, Mirra, Aubrey, Helena, and Maxwell; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m., in C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family. All other services are private. Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline

Orders placed in:

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
