In this edition of our ‘Best ocean swimming beaches’ series, we take a look at the Queensland beaches you’ll want to add to your bucket list.

There are 6,973 kilometres of coastline in Queensland so it is safe to say there is no shortage of beaches for ocean swimmers to explore.

Finding the perfect beach for an ocean swim can come down to a range of things; clear water, stunning landscape surrounds and picturesque views.

In this edition of our ‘Best ocean swimming beaches’ series, we take a look at the Queensland beaches you’ll want to add to your bucket list.

1. Nudey Beach

Nudey Beach is located on Fitzroy Island and contrary to the name you don’t need to get your kit off to visit and go swimming at the beach.

This beach is filled with white sand and azure blue water, surrounded by picturesque landscape including rainforest, coastal woodlands and huge granite boulders this is the perfect beach for an ocean swim.

While swimming you may be lucky enough to see colourful fish and turtles swimming around below you.

2. Tallebudgera Creek

Tallebudgera Creek is located on the Gold Coast, and, whilst not an ocean beach, it is the perfect place for a spot of swimming sans waves.

Tallebudgera Creek is filled with white sand, piercing blue calm water and looming views of the luscious green Burleigh Headland.

Tallebudgera means “good fish” in Aboriginal which is why you will find the creek swarming with fish and the occasional ray.

3. Whitehaven Beach

Whitehaven Beach is located on the beautiful Whitsundays Island and has been voted one of the best beaches for ocean swimming in the past.

Whitehaven Beach is known for its famous white silica sand and crystal clear turquoise water with lush greenery in the background.

Whitehaven Beach is five kilometres long, meaning you can swim the whole length of the beach or part if you choose. You could even swim a little bit then get out and walk on the white sand and jump back into the crystal clear water for another swimming stint.

Once you finish enjoying your swim at Whitehaven Beach you can take a walk up Hill Inlet Outlook to take in the breathtaking views from above.

Swimmers have been known to see turtles, rays, tropical fish and dolphins on their swims at Whitehaven.

The best way to swim at Whitehaven is on an OceanFit Swim The Whitsundays tour.

4. Noosa Main Beach

Noosa Main Beach is located on the Sunshine Coast and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Queensland.

Noosa is one of the only north-facing beaches on the East Coast of Australia, providing shelter to the beach. This means tranquil conditions are almost always guaranteed, making for the perfect ocean swimming location.

When you’re done with your swim at the beach head up Hastings Street for endless restaurants, cafes and famous boutiques.
