The Beaucarnea has a striking architectural outline which makes it an ideal plant for the modern office interior. The plant has two scientific names Nolina for the younger plants and Beaucarnea for the mature seniors. It is also known by two affectionate nick names, Elephants Foot because the shape of its wide bulbous lower stem and Pony Tail palm, because of the long curly leaves that hang down like a ponies tail.
They thrive best with plenty of natural light and like to be in a medium to well lit location. The Beaucarnea can stand periods of drought as water is stored in the thick stems and roots, however regular watering is preferred.
In its native Mexico it can grow up to eight metres tall and two metres wide and some trees are thought to be over 100 years old.
