A Tequila you Must try: Herencia de Plata

I am very excited to write about Herencia de Plata tequilas as, for me, these are some of the best tequilas for sipping and enjoying (no lime for me, please)! I first came across Herencia de Plata few years ago at the Tequila & Mezcal Festival in London, a great event to visit for a better understanding of tequila. You get to try new brands and open your taste buds to the world of agave spirits! Trying Herencia de Plata for the first time was a wake-up call to start checking out premium tequilas on the bar shelves (which can be surprisingly hard on occasion).

There are three types of Herencia de Plata: Blanco, Reposado and Añejo, all made from 100% blue agave. Blanco has smoky notes with some citrus. It is slightly sweet, but you can feel the heat coming through.

Herencia de Plata Reposado has a light golden colour. You can really taste the sweetness of cooked agave with notes of dried fruit and spiciness. This Reposado is aged for eight months in white-oak barrels.

Herencia de Plata Añejo is aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 18 to 24 months. This honey-coloured Añejo has taken flavour nicely from the wood, and it is sweet and slightly spicy. It tastes almost like marshmallows, or even crème brulée, with a hint of vanilla, some black pepper and nutmeg. Absolutely delicious. I could sip this all day long!

Both Reposado and Añejo are great for sipping and have a smooth, light syrupy texture. Blanco and Reposado also make a tasty cocktail. All Herencia de Plata tequilas are 38% ABV.

Even the Queen is said to have tried Herencia de Plata!

Competition time!!

This time around, one lucky reader will have the chance to win a bottle of Herencia de Plata Tequila! I will even let you choose between Reposado and Añejo, because I can’t decide which one I like more and therefore I’m unable to choose for you!

Simply share this post and follow On the Sauce Again on Twitter or Facebook and tell me which is your favourite tequila-based cocktail. The competition ends 16th March 2017.

Good luck!! #tequilalove

PS. If your luck doesn’t give you a bottle on this occasion, I recommend you still go and order yourself a bottle from Mex Grocer, as you don’t want to miss out on this! 😊
