Original Pilipino Music (OPM) in relation to Progressive Music
Our very own musical scene OPM can be also relate to Progressive music. As Progressive music refer to Progressive Rock, Progressive Folk, and Progressive Metal etc. Here I show some relation of what Progressive Music brought to our Philippine Music.
Progressive Rock can be somehow relate to Pinoy rock, which we knew it’s a quality of songs which define as ‘rock and roll’ with a superior voice through performance on stage. A good example of artist is the Kamikazee where they really ‘rock the stage’ and Jay Contreras (lead vocalist) performs head bang every time he’s on stage. Kamikazee as one of favorite Pinoy Rock band because of their songs which put a comedy story inside it for in an instance the song Chicksilog where in the story is the protagonist in the song was tricked in an online game by person he knew a girl. Another example would be the Parokya ni Edgar in their song entitled Mang Jose.
Progressive Folk can be relate in to our Philippine Folk Music which traditional music played by ethnic groups in the Philippines. Progressive Folk music shows stylistic and thematic innovation (Wikipedia.com) that can be shown in tribes performing folk music with style on how ethnic groups perform for in an instance their dance and they are thematic depending on what culture they represent such as Mangyan, Tagbanwa, Igorot etc.

Progressive Metal define blended elements of heavy metal and progressive rock music, taking the loud “aggression”and amplified electric guitar-driven sound of the former, with the more experimental, complex and “pseudo-classical” compositions of the latter. Progressive metal often utilizes the conceptual themes associated with progressive rock. (Wikipedia.com) as an example Philippine artist for metal genre is Slapshock. They perform with ‘aggression’ while screaming in some part of the song they played.

Progressive Music in general influences globally music industry in creating, analyzing and presenting music and these are some examples. We benefited from Progressive Music to create our music in relating it to types of progressive music. OPM is the result of Progressive music in our country and as a fan, I’m glad Filipino Music artist creates a dynamic work of music that we can be proud of.
