Bridal Veil Falls Oregon

Looking for a short hike, breathtaking vistas, and a beautiful waterfall? This is your lucky day! We have that place in the Columbia River Gorge: Bridal Veil Falls, Oregon.

Every time I need to take a break and slow down a little, the first options I look for are forests or waterfalls, and the Columbia River Gorge has it all! For this particular day, I decided to visit the Bridal Veil Falls, Oregon.

We are so lucky to have these natural gems so close to Portland. Especially for me, I think waterfalls are a treasure. They are so gorgeous, and I also consider a peaceful experience listening to the sound of the water and feeling the mist in my face.

The trip

From Portland, you have to take the I-84 E to Bridal Veil and then choose the exit 28 and continue in E Bridal Veil Rd until you find the Historic Columbia River Hwy and turn right there. Driving straight, you will find the sign of Bridal Veil Falls State Scenic Viewpoint and the parking area.

I enjoy driving to Columbia River Gorge. Once I cross Portland’s downtown and then Sandy River, I feel I’m in my happy place.

Particularly this time, I went on a weekday, so the parking lot was almost empty, but it can be jam-packed on weekends and summertime. For that reason, it is preferable to go early in the morning to find space.

What to see and do

Hiking

Bridal Veil Falls State Scenic Viewpoint features two hiking trails, amazing views of Columbia River and rock formations, and the cherry of the cake, a stunning waterfall (120′ tall).

All the above activities are accessible from the parking area. Once you park, go east, and you will find an entrance for the two trails close to the restrooms.

The overlook trail is a half-mile interpretive loop with marvelous vistas! It’s paved and wheelchair accessible. One of the things I loved most of it was the picnic tables with stunning views of Columbia River.

Additionally, in Spring and Summer, you will find different varieties of wildflowers.

The second trail is a 1.4-mile round-trip route to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. It starts as a paved trail, but then you will find gravel paths and stairs, so this one is not wheelchair accessible.

As an anecdote, the first time I visited this place, I went with my kids, and my daughter was a baby. We walked on this trail with a regular stroller, and it was such an adventure going through the stairs carrying my daughter, the stroller, my camera, snacks, and so on. The people looked at me and laughed, and luckily, some of them helped me in some sections. So please don’t do it like me! (I have so many stories like that one in all these years hiking with my kids)

Summarizing, both trails are beautiful and kid-friendly. Just be careful with small kids and pets, as usual, in Columbia River Gorge, there are some cliffs (especially when it’s muddy after rainy days). In general, the trail is wide enough to walk safely, and it’s well maintained.

Picnicking

After your walk, you can enjoy a little break having a picnic in some of the tables available for that, and as it has been mentioned, some of them include amazing views. Also, you’ll find nice grassy areas for your picnic blanket.

This place is so beautiful! I hope you can visit it and don’t forget your camera!

If you like places like this one, another great option is Wahclela Falls or Latourell Falls. And since the hike is short, you can combine it with other activities in the area.
