WEAR GHANA MONTH. Our role as Ghanaians.

The textile industry was one of the booming industries employing over 25 thousand workers, but now it has lay off thousands of workers due to it low patronage. Not to talk of some famous textile industries that are in the verge of collapsing, like the Akosombo textile limited(ATL) and Juapong textile limited, not to mention our beautiful kente cloths, batakari (smock), beads and other valuable Ghanaian products that has hit the rock of dying out from the market scene due to our taste of foreign products more than the quality Ghanaian goods.

So what are we doing as a country and a people with one common goal. Let us wake up from our slumber and define our identity to the world. Are we not marketing our country if it becomes lawful that students in the various University campuses and other tertiary institutions should put on Ghana made cloths to school every Fridays. Are we not marketing Ghana if the various restaurants and eating joints in the country are charged to provide only local dishes every Friday for the Ghana man and Ghana woman to buy his own local food.

Today Ghana man and woman is sharp to mention Pizza, sharwama, fried rice, jollof as his favourite but feels reluctant to mention Fufu and abunabunu, ampesie and kontomire stew, banku, mmekwan, tuo- zaafi, tumbani, kenkey and hot pepper as his traditional meal. Hmmm how sad. Due to our taste for unhealthy foods, today we eat fast foods, we get sick fast,we are rush to the hospital fast and we die fast.

Culture they say is the way of life of a particular group of people which include their food, clothes, belief etc. So as Ghanaians do we really project our culture to the outside world? How do the outside world see us?

My little advice is that, as we have enter March, the wear Ghana month, let it be our priority to eat, drink and wear made in Ghana goods. Thus the only way that defines our identity as Ghanaians.

The Great Dr. Ephraim Amoh once said in his patriotic song that;

Oman yi s3 b3 y3 yie oo

Oman yi s3 3rennye yie oo

Omanfo bra na 3kyer3…..

And it translate that, whether this country will move forward or not it is the attitude of the people that will determine.

I call upon all of you that in this wear Ghana month, let’s patronize made in Ghana products. Let’s visit our traditional kejetia market, makola market, kotokoraba market etc and buy goods from the native Ghanaian traders and make them enjoy from their sweats and labour. Isn’t it more colorful, beautiful and traditional to be a Ghanaian this month? Let’s eat our local foods and drinks.

let’s visit our tourist sites in the country to generate more revenue to the government to build a dream a beautiful and a better Ghana. The land is beautiful, colorful, cultured, resourceful and more African. Happy 61st Independence Day to us all.

God bless Ghana, God bless Africa.
