Richard Edelman to marry Claudia González Romo

Arthur Sulzberger Jr.’s loss was Richard Edelman’s gain.

Claudia González Romo — the elegant Mexican-Swiss diplomat who used to date the chairman and publisher of the New York Times — is getting married this weekend to the president and CEO of Edelman, the world’s largest public relations company.

“Richard is so in love. He has stars in his eyes. It’s so cute,” a friend of the groom told me.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson is rumored to be officiating the nuptials, along with Rabbi David Ingber.

While the official ceremony on Saturday will be a small family affair, the couple will celebrate Sunday at the Century Club on West 43rd Street with a big dinner and dancing to the Motown music of the Temptations.

The glamorous bride, a special adviser for UNICEF, was formerly head of marketing for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

She met Sulzberger Jr. on a New Year’s trip to Mexico in 2011 when they were both houseguests of Carlos Slim, who bailed out the Times Co. in 2009 with a $250 million loan and is now its biggest individual shareholder.

“They met in Mexico, and it was love at first sight,” the Mexican society magazine Quién reported.

But the passion was short-lived. Sulzberger married Gabrielle Greene in 2014.

Edelman divorced his wife of 28 years, Rosalind Walrath, in 2015.
