Andrew High School Counseling Department receives IMPACT award
Team approach impacts all T-bolts
The Victor J. Andrew High School Counseling Department was awarded a 2023 Impact Award by the Illinois School Counselor Association. The purpose of this award is to recognize school counseling teams who are working together to make a difference for their students, school, community and the profession as a whole. Andrew was one of only two schools in the state of Illinois awarded this recognition.
Programs are judged on how the school counselors collaborate with one other, how the program has made an impact on the school and the school counseling profession, what type of growth the school’s program has and what impact it has on the students, the school culture, and the community, and finally, what outcomes have improved with the school’s implementation of its ASCA aligned comprehensive school counseling program.
According to Andrew Guidance Director Michele Vieu, “The school counselors at Andrew are leaders, advocates, and most powerful of all- they are a team. The work they do is focused on increasing academic success, individualized postsecondary plans, and increasing the social and emotional development of ALL students. The team at VJA makes such an outstanding impact on students through their collaboration with social workers, interventions, deans, teachers, administrators, the community and each other. Thanks to each of them for the passion they have, the work they do, and for being a family to each other, our students, and our community.”
