12 Things You Need to Know About Mohamed Sanu

He's good. He's from South Brunswick. Tune in to watch him in the Super Bowl Sunday night.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Make sure you tune into the Falcons-Patriots Super Bowl LI Sunday night — if only to see South Brunswick's own Mohamed Sanu in action.

Sanu, who grew up in South Brunswick Township and was a star on the Viking playing fields, went on to Rutgers, where he was a record-setting wide receiver. Sanu is now a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, who will take on the New England Patriots Sunday night. In fact, it was an early touchdown Sanu made in the NFC Championship game against Green Bay that helped take the team to the Super Bowl. From the South Brunswick Public Library, here are 12 things you need to know about Sanu:

  • Born in Sayreville, NJ, Sanu moved to Sierra Leone as a child before moving to Dayton, in South Brunswick
  • He led South Brunswick to its first playoff berth in nearly 40 years throughout his last year playing on the team
  • He graduated from South Brunswick High school in December 2008/January 2009
  • Started at Rutgers University in January 2009
  • Played wide receiver at Rutgers
  • 2011: Set records at Rutgers with 115 receptions for 1,206 yards
  • 2011: Named MVP in football at Rutgers
  • Entered into the 2012 NFL draft
  • Drafted to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012
  • South Brunswick retired his jersey #2
  • Signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016
  • Fun fact: Sanu's jersey number with the Falcons is 12. Sanu wanted 12 because his SBHS Vikings number was 2 and his Rutgers number was 6, making the product of 12.

“Just the moment,’’ Sanu told the New York Post of how it feels to play the biggest game of his career. “It’s the moment I’ve been waiting for my entire life, and for it to be here, for me to be able it enjoy it and embrace it, it’s a blessing.”
