The university’s former football defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been indicted on 40 counts, including inappropriate touching and statutory rape. Sandusky is accused of targeting eight boys in 15 years – both before and after his retirement in 1999. Additionally, former athletic director Timothy Curley and former Vice President of Business and Finance Gary Schultz resigned from the university Sunday night. They faced arraignment Monday on perjury charges for claiming they did not know about the alleged sex abuse. During his time at the university, Sandusky gave its football team a reputation as “Linebacker U,” assisting legendary head coach Joe Paterno score the most wins in Division I history. Curley and Schultz could face up to seven years in prison if convicted, while Sandusky could face life. “Jerry’s very, very depressed,” Sandusky’s attorney Joe Amendola said. “He’s very distraught about the charges, the allegations.” Paterno has not been charged. He says an assistant coach informed him that he witnessed an incident between Sandusky and a young male in 2002. Paterno says he then passed on the information to Curley.
