Ahead of his emergency surgery, the avid cyclist shared on Instagram that he completed a multisport race on the South Island of New Zealand in mid-February.

He shared that he biked, ran and paddled “over 2 days to get from one side of the country to the other.”

The father of two confessed that he chose to go forward with it because “it sounded like exactly the kind of thing [he] couldn’t do, which sometimes [he] thinks is a great reason you should have a go.”

“It beat us up pretty good but my god was it beautiful while it did it, and has gifted us a lifetime of memories,” wrote Blake. “And a big thanks to my knees who are shitty at me still and have requested a transfer to another body but I know we’ll laugh about it one day. 🙂🤙,” he jokingly concluded.
