While Stranger Things have happened, it appears as though Millie Bobby Brown may have lost her British accent!

The Netflix star, 20, appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and a handful of fans took to social media to note how it seems like she has fully taken on an American accent since living and working in the U.S.

Throughout the interview, the actress — who was born to British parents and spent much of her childhood in Bournemouth, England before eventually moving to Orlando, Florida — largely spoke in an American accent, while some words carried an English inflection.

The first time the Stranger Things star’s original accent made an appearance was as she joked about how her beloved dog Winnie “somehow makes everything about her,” with “her” losing the hard “R” sound. During several other instances, like explaining how she and her fiancé Jake Bongiovi “bonded” over scuba diving when sharing how he ended up proposing to her on a dive, it also subtly came through.

At one point, Brown inadvertently proved just how seamlessly she could slide back into sounding like a lifelong Brit by doing an impression of her mother Kelly at one point.

In the comments of the video across multiple social media platforms, fans sounded off about how shocked they were to hear the Enola Holmes star sounding like an American.

On YouTube, one viewer noted, “her british accent is barely there anymore😭😭 i know shes been in america for a long time now but omg it used to be SO strong,” while several others compared her voice to resembling a Valley girl’s or “an impersonation of an American accent.”

“Loveee that her accent goes in and out hahah,” another fan wrote in the comments of an interview clip on TikTok

Dozens of fans shared their thoughts in a Reel of the conversation on The Tonight Show’s Instagram. “Her accent is basically gone 😮,” a shocked commented replied, while another added, “She sounds so American now 😭😭.”

Several fans also brushed off criticism that she lost her British accent on purpose and one reasoned that the Emmy-nominated performer is currently filming the final season of Stranger Things, which is why an American accent is coming through.

While Brown became a household name with her portrayal of Eleven on Stranger Things, she’s appeared in a handful of U.S. and U.K.-based productions since the show premiered when she was just 12 years old.

The Florence by Mills founder has also spoken over the years about how she loves learning how to do different impressions and first picked up an American accent.

While appearing on Miley Cyrus’ Instagram series Bright Minded in 2020, Brown told the pop superstar, 31, that she actually picked up how to sound American from watching Hannah Montana

The Damsel actress later confirmed on a May 2022 appearance on The Tonight Show that watching the Disney Channel series was in fact how she perfected slipping out of her British accent.

She also shared how easily she can pick up new accents by watching movies and TV. "I like to see characters and then I just do the accent," Brown admitted. "As long as I've watched it for long enough, I can kind of get it to somewhat of a T."
