What do you get when you mix American Idol‘s Irish belter Carly Smithson and Grammy-winning rock group Evanescence? Evidently, a brand new band called The Fallen.

Smithson, who’s been compared to former Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee (pictured right) since her Idol run on season 7, is joining three of the four original group members.

“We began looking for our soulmate, which we were scared was going to take a long, long time,” founding guitarist Ben Moody told the Los Angeles Times blog Idol Tracker. But they found Smithson, who called the offer “pretty awesome.”

“I’m excited to be able to completely jump out of the box,” she said. “The Idol thing, you know, was very PG, it was for a family audience … I’ve never been more happy than being in this band.”
