Zayn Malik Teases 'Raw' New Album: 'There's Just Me Writing This'

"The intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being," Malik said in a teaser clip for the LP

Zayn Malik is back with a new album!

On Wednesday, the former One Direction singer, 31, teased his upcoming LP release with a short video on Instagram featuring multiple clips and photos of himself.

In the video, the "Dusk Till Dawn" hitmaker said in a voiceover, “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being."

“My ambitions, my fears… and for them to have a connection with that," the singer, who wiped his Instagram clean ahead of the announcement, added. "And that's why it's so raw, you know?"

"There's just me writing this. I didn't want anyone else to be in between me and the music, and the music and the people listening to it," he concluded.

Fans were then given a preview of what appears to be a new song, in which Malik croons, "If I told you I loved you, would you say that it's f---ed up?"

Last month, Rolling Stone confirmed that Malik was set to release his new album. The record is co-produced by Dave Cobb, known for his work across the country and rock genres with artists like Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile and Lady Gaga.

According to the outlet, Malik had been writing the album — his first on new label Mercury Records — for many years at his home in rural Pennsylvania before he got the Grammy-winning producer, 49, involved.

“What got me about Zayn was his voice, you can hear love, loss, pain, triumph and humanity in it. I feel as if this record is removing the glass from his spirit directly to his fans,” Cobb told Rolling Stone of the eagerly anticipated LP.

“Zayn has really created his own universe on this record, he really has no fear and is speaking straight from his soul,” he added.

This isn't the first fans have heard of Malik's upcoming release. Last July, during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the musician confirmed, “I’m doing a record I don’t think people are really gonna expect. It’s a different sound for me.”

"And it’s got some more narrative going on, like real-life experiences and stuff. My daughter’s mentioned in there a couple of times," Malik added of Khai, 3, whom he shares with ex Gigi Hadid.

Malik released his last single “Love Like This” in July 2023, marking his first new music in two years, and his debut single for Mercury Records.

His last album — Nobody Is Listening — dropped in 2021. His debut, Mind of Mine, was released in 2016, and its follow-up, Icarus Falls, dropped in 2018.
