Chelone lyonii 'Hot Lips'- Pink turtlehead

Chelone lyonii, is an upright, clump-forming perennial which typically grows 2-4’ tall. Hooded, snapdragon-like pink flowers (to 1” long) bloom in tight spikes from late summer into fall.  Flowers described as resembling the heads of open-mouthed turtles, hence the common name. Genus name comes from the Greek word chelone meaning tortoise in reference to the turtlehead shape of the flowers. ‘Hot Lips’ features rosy pink fall flowers that are richer pink than the species.
