General Description
Plant climbing reaching 1-5 m above the ground; Anchor roots sparse, 0.5-5 cm long; Stem ± densely verrucose, 3-5 mm thickness when dry; Internodes 1.5-7 cm. LEAVES with petiole 5.5-10 cm, sheathing for more than 3/4 its length; Sheath broad, deeply canaliculate; Blade 10-18 x 3-6 cm, lanceolate ± arcuate assymetric, rarely oblong assymetric, base broadly acute, more rarely cuneate obtuse, apex acuminate, acumen 1-1.5 cm; 4-7 pairs primary veins, all ascending, linking between then by secondary veins; Network of veinlets rather prominent; Translucent glandular dashes and dots ± visible; miniscule and numerous circular excressences on the lower surface of the blade; Absence of parenchyma gaps in the blade. INFLORESCENCES terminal, 1-2; Peduncle shorter than petioles, 3-5 cm; Spathe 2-3 cm, apiculate; Spadix included, claviform, sessile to substipitate; Ovary unilocular; 1-2 ovules, anatropous. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries ovoid.
Distribution
Bioko, Cameroon, Zaire and probably in Centrafrique. In Cameroon, this rare species has been collected in the regions of Mamfe, Kumba and Buea, in damaged forest understorey.
