Presentation

Front seat passenger with facial trauma, presented to the emergency department with nasal bleeding.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
  • fracture anterior nasal spine, intact morphology of the remaining facial bones

  • mild right-sided deviated nasal septum

  • partially opacified bilateral anterior ethmoid air cells and mild mucosal thickening of the left maxillary sinus; the remaining paranasal sinuses are well-aerated and clear, and bilateral mastoid air cells are also well-aerated and clear

  • multiple small sub-centimeter lymph nodes in the scanned upper neck bilaterally, likely reactive in nature

Case Discussion

The anterior nasal spine (ANS) is a small midline bony projection of the maxilla at the level of the nares. Fracture of ANS is an uncommon nasal fracture which is overlooked by the patients and physicians and rarely documented in the literature, likely due to its small size and central location1.
