Presentation

3 day history of cough and generally feeling unwell.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Multiple small bilateral areas of patchy confluent opacification, lower zone predominant.

Findings are consistent with bilateral bronchopneumonia. The patient was admitted and treated with IV antibiotics and respiratory support.

x-ray

X-ray performed after 4 days of IV antibiotics demonstrates near resolution of the multiple small bilateral areas of patchy confluent opacification.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates the typical x-ray features of bronchopneumonia (lobular pneumonia), infection involving the secondary pulmonary lobules.
