Description

The Beseda (Bes-e-da) is the national dance of Czechoslovakia. It is generally considered one of the most beautiful of all folk dances because of its many changes in rhythm, mood, and tempo, and the great variety of its dance figures. The Beseda is simply a connected series of native dance-songs of which four are used in this arrangement. Both words and music of these songs are bright and festive while the melodies flow smoothly and are easily sung or played.

Both Dvorak and Smetana, two. of Czechoslovakia’s best known composers, recognized the value and potential of their country’s folk music. The prominence of these composers comes not only from their outstanding genius, but from their use of this folk music of their native land in building their masterpieces.

Actually, the Beseda need not be explained. Czech folk music speaks for itself.
