Important SAP BASIS related OSS Notes

Hi All,

Today I’m going to share a list of SAP OSS Notes related to Basis. This list of OSS Notes was built based on my technical experience from 2000 – 2015. I noted them down since they’re not just helped me solve problem that I faced at that time, but I think they also contain some useful and important information or basic concepts of SAP Basis that made me learn something out by just reading them.

So for Basis guys, happy reading on these OSS Notes!

SAP Basis Transactions, Reports and Tables

Hi All,

Today I’m gonna share a list of SAP Basis related Transaction Codes (T-Codes), Reports and Tables that I learned (and mostly have used) from my years of experience in SAP Basis. For list of transactions codes, it’s actually a download from a SAP table, with non SAP-Basis related transaction codes filtered out . For list of Reports and Tables, I noted down each of them by my experience, in which I think is important and I might use repeatedly.

I hope it’s useful for whoever in need. If you are a SAP Basis personnel, you might want to get familiar with those you haven’t used before.

I built this list from year of 2000 and still updated it until 2015 when last time I used SAP ECC 6. Some might be become obsolete.

Happy exploring!

Windows scripts to simplify start, stop, restart Oracle EBS and its Oracle RDBMS

Hi All,

In this post, I’m gonna share my handy scripts I developed to simplify (one-click) to start Oracle EBS and to shutdown Oracle EBS in Windows environment.

As I shared in my previous post, I manage to install Oracle EBS in my netbook running on Windows 7 with a limited CPU and RAM. Since at that time, my netbook is used for other activities (like for surfing the internet, editing Word and Powerpoint documents for my family, etc), it has to run on its top speed after I installed Oracle EBS and Oracle RDBMS in it, while Oracle EBS is shut down.

So, to achieve this, I disabled all Services related to Oracle EBS and its Oracle RDBMS (in Windows Services Control Panel). The goal is to have them in shutdown state whenever the netbook starts up, and keep them in shutdown state until I run my script to start Oracle EBS. I also developed another scripts, to shutdown everything (processes & services) related to Oracle EBS and its Oracle RDBMS, in one-click, to free everything up when I stop using Oracle EBS in my netbook.

With this scripts, start and shutdown Oracle EBS is simply in one-click, and they keep your machine resources (CPU and RAM) optimally used. Oracle EBS and Oracle RDBMS processes and services only up when needed, and they all die when we don’t need them, in a simpler term. For start scripts, they even fires up my browser with my Oracle EBS logon screen opened up.

Here are my scripts.

Installing Oracle EBS for Linux with Oracle VM VirtualBox running on Windows 10 OS in a laptop

Hi All,

Today, I ‘m gonna share my experience in installing Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) on my laptop. As I mentioned in my previous post, I managed to install Oracle EBS 12.1 on my netbook running Windows 7. However, there is a unresolved problem with Oracle forms for Oracle EBS 12.1 running on Windows 7 environment. It’s a killer FRM-92101 error. Since most of Oracle EBS transactions running with their Oracle forms application, my installation simply unusable.

So, I started to go down to a path to install Oracle EBS 12.1 on Linux where they don’t have this problem. But since my laptop is running Windows 10 Operating System, I need to have a virtual machine in my laptop to run Linux Operating System. I selected Oracle VM VirtualBox for my virtual machine, and chose Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.0 as my Operating System in the virtual machine, and was planning to install Oracle EBS on top of those. See, they’re all Oracle, so there must not be a single compatibility issue, I supposed. And yes, after trying, it went smoothly. So, here are some steps to make it happen. Just for a record, I did this installation on March 2016.

Installing Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 12.1 on a netbook or laptop

Hi All. Today I’m gonna share my experience on installing Oracle EBS 12.1 in my netbook. My netbook is a Lenovo Ideapad S110 with Intel Atom CPU and 4 GB of RAM. It came with a 2GB RAM as its standard, however I upgraded it to 4GB of RAM some time ago.

My netbook runs on Windows 7 Operating System. The installation went successfully, however note that Oracle forms simply do not work for Oracle EBS 12.1 running on Windows 7 environment (it keeps failing with FRM-92101 error). I spent several days to make it work, but it simply don’t. There is a lot of people is having the same problem, a lot of post in the Internet on how to fix it, but none of them is working. I tried almost everything mentioned in those posts, improvised in my own way, but still could not make it work. So I simply decided to go with another way, to install Oracle EBS 12.1 for Linux, which does not have this problem. Oracle simply does not support Oracle EBS 12.1 running on Windows 7. However, during my research to make it work, I learned that on Windows Server 2003 environment, there is an Oracle patch to make it work. The installation steps should be the same with what I’m about to share here. That’s the reason I’m still sharing this installation steps with you all. Or if you just want to play around with non Oracle forms application in Oracle EBS (the web version), you can go ahead with the installation on Windows 7. But note that most of Oracle EBS transactions running on Oracle forms application.

Oracle EBS 12.1 that I installed runs on top of Oracle 11g which came in the installation package. I did the installation on January 2016.

Installing SAP on your Netbook or Laptop

I installed SAP to my netbook. Yes, it’s not even a laptop. It’s a netbook. For you who is not familiar with a netbook, it’s simply a smaller, less powerful device compared to a laptop. It’s first developed only to surf the internet. It has a limited CPU and RAM installed. The OS itself is Windows 7 Starter version. Yes, it’s a lowest and the most limited version of Windows 7.

My netbook’s is Lenovo S110 Ideapad with Intel Atom CPU and with only 2 GB of physical RAM.

So, I learned that SAP can run in a very limited hardware and OS. But of course, it’s only for your playground system, a very limited user (one or two) to access and it will take some time to load a transaction, but to me it’s still fairly OK considering the above limitations on hardware specification and OS. Some light SAP transactions can load below 2000ms response time. As you may know, 2000ms (2 seconds) is a well-known threshold of response time for acceptable SAP performance in SAP world, to load a single transaction.

I installed SAP ECC 6 with Oracle 10g RDBMS. It was back in December 2010. After I installed this SAP in my netbook, I learned SAP ABAP Programming, deepen my SAP Basis knowledge, learn how to construct Enterprise Structure, config different SAP modules (FI, MM, PP, SD, HR, CO, PM) and perform some end-to-end transactions on different scenarios like Order to Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Plan-to-Produce, etc. And I do it without having to have my netbook connect to any network, and I could do it anytime and anywhere, as long as I have my netbook turned on. Sometimes I learned SAP using my netbook by the swimming pool while watching my kids swimming, in a hotel room after a long day playing with the kids, it’s pretty handy. I will post all my learning on SAP later on.

In 2016, I managed to install Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 12.1  in my laptop with Oracle 11g RDBMS. Then I learned that Oracle EBS could also run in a limited hardware specification. I will post another blog on How to Install Oracle EBS on a laptop.

In mid 2016, I learned to install SAP ECC 6 and Oracle EBS 12.1 on Virtual Machine (VM) environment, still on my laptop. I have to do this to make my SAP and Oracle EBS installation easier to migrate between laptops, just in case I have to move them to another laptop or to a PC. Another reason is that I learned that Oracle EBS 12.1 forms does not work in Windows 7, so I have to have non-Windows environment in my laptop. One way to achieve this is to install VM in my laptop (I used Oracle VM), install Linux on top of it ( I used Oracle Linux 6.5), and then installed Oracle EBS 12.1 for Linux on top of it. Then I can get Oracle EBS forms to work. I will also post how to install Oracle VM, Oracle Linux and Oracle EBS on top of it all, in my laptop running Windows 7.

Meanwhile, here is some steps I did to install SAP ECC 6 on my netbook back in 2010. I still have all the necessary software (CDs) to repeat those steps. In fact, I actually performed the installation more than 4 times on different laptop and PC in my house.
