Info
This small sand perch is a predatory fish with a pale bluish-gray base coloration with a dark pattern on the back, a broad, white, wavy center stripe with a brown stripe and vertically running reddish spots below. Along the lower part of the red spots, a series of dark brown to black strokes are clearly visible.
Furthermore, a white stripe is visible on the caudal fin and a dark bar from the eye to below the cheek.
Parapercis stricticeps is a resident of sandy areas near reefs, but also occurs on scree bottoms, where juveniles find good hiding places during the first months.
This sand perch differs from Parapercis xanthozona, and Parapercis clathrata, by a dark diagonal stripe from the eye to below the cheek.
It also differs from Parapercis clathrata by the absence of a spot behind the eye of males.
Synonym: Percis stricticeps De Vis, 1884
