Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera feels that the defensive problems that have characterized Inter’s season so far have been unacceptable.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Radio, Provera weighed in on the Nerazzurri’s struggles to keep clean sheets, which once again manifested in Sunday evening’s 2-0 Serie A loss at the hands of Juventus.

Inter’s attack has been far from flawless, but it has been at the other end of the pitch that the most significant issues have come about for Simone Inzaghi’s team.

These problems have reared their head regularly throughout the campaign, and were yet again on show during the second half of Sunday’s match, which saw the Bianconeri waltz through the middle of the pitch to score on two occasions.

For Tronchetti Provera, this simply has not been good enough for a team of the Nerazzurri’s stature.

“The loss against Juventus hurts a lot because Inter were recovering and going through a confident period,” he noted.

“The defense is being breached too much and now top spot is now too far away.”

“Losing against the Bianconeri hurts, especially because they played good football, but sixteen goals conceded away from home is too many, serious reflection is needed,” he argued.

“A defense that has shown that it has great quality in the past is showing problems now that are unacceptable.”
