Defender Alessandro Bastoni is a doubt to play for Inter Milan against Udinese on Monday due to a slight injury.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the 24-year-old picked up a slight thigh strain.

Yesterday, Bastoni picked up a slight muscle knock.

The problem is a strain to the former Parma and Atalanta defender’s thigh.

Bastoni’s injury is not a serious one. And in fact, he should likely be able to return to training in the next day or two.

However, that does not mean that the 24-year-old will necessarily be ready to be in action in Monday evening’s Serie A match away to Udinese.

Alessandro Bastoni A Doubt For Inter In Serie A Clash Vs Udinese

According to the Corriere, it is uncertain whether Bastoni will be in the squad for Monday’s match.

No risks will be taken with the Italian international’s fitness.

Therefore, depending on the next day or two of monitoring the player’s fitness, Bastoni may not make the trip to Friuli with the rest of the squad.

Naturally, the priority is to have Bastoni available for the rest of the season. Particularly the derby against AC Milan later this month.

There are certainly other options in the squad capable of playing in Bastoni’s position on the left of the Nerazzurri back three – Francesco Acerbi and Carlos Augusto among them.

And given Inter’s lead at the top of the Serie A table, coach Simone Inzaghi would see little doubt in risking Bastoni’s fitness during Monday’s match.

Therefore, even if the 24-year-old is a part of the squad, he will not start.

But there is little risk to Bastoni’s fitness in the coming matches. He should be fully fit to face Cagliari next weekend.

Then, in around two weeks’ time, Inter face the Rossoneri in the derby.
