“Unwrap a Mystery Book” Library Program Kit

“Unwrap a Mystery Book” is an elementary version of a “Blind Date with a Book” program. This set-up kit includes everything you need to let your students do the bulk of the work (such as wrapping the books) and save you time and energy.

This kit contains all the same pieces as Mrs. ReaderPants’ Blind Date with a Book Program except the phrase “Blind Date with a Book” is replaced with “Unwrap a Mystery Book” in all pieces of the kit. There is also simplified language on the Hint Cards.

If you are an elementary librarian, teach ESL students, or are just looking for something less “romantic,” you will probably prefer this kit. This version will also work just fine with middle and high school students as well.

This program kit has 36 slides & pages, and it includes:

Unless otherwise noted, all materials in this product are in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, and PDF file formats.

• Set-up Instructions (3 pages)
  • Step-by-step directions and tips
• Mystery Book Creation Station Center Instructions (2 pages)
  • Includes printable materials for setting up an Unwrap a Mystery Book “Creation Station” center in the library.
  • This should be 1 or 2 tables that can stay set up for a few weeks. Stock it with paper bags, markers, pens, stickers, construction paper, hold punches, etc.
  • In the Creation Station, students will wrap the books and attach the “Hints About This Book” cards.
  • Editable in Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides
• Eight (8) “Hints about This Book” recommendation cards (2 pages)
  • Students fill these out and attach them to the books.
  • The “hints” include book barcode, I recommend this book to people who like…, and what grade/age the student thinks this book is best for.
  • The fields are all editable, so you can change these as you like.
• Eight (8) “How Did It Go?” cards (2 pages)
  • Students fill these out after they try a Mystery Book.
  • They can turn these in for a chance to win a daily, weekly, or Grand Prize drawing, if you choose.
• Student Directions Presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint + Google Slides (8 slides)
  • These slides show how the program works and how students can create a wrapped Mystery Book.
  • The presentation is editable, including the author’s photos.
  • You are welcome to use the author’s photos, or take your own once you have your Unwrap a Mystery Book ready to go.
• Instruction Posters (7 pages / slides)
  • These printable signs tell students how “Unwrap a Mystery Book” works.
  • Print, laminate, and display with your wrapped mystery books.
  • Includes three designs, and you can edit the directions as you like.
• Troubleshooting Guide (1 page, PDF only)
• Google Classroom Basics (4 pages, PDF only)
