John Lannan '06 Inks Minor League Deal with Mets

Jan. 22, 2014

Siena Hall of Famer John Lannan '06 signed a Minor League contract with the New York Mets Saturday that includes an invitation to Spring Training. According to multiple reports, the veteran left-hander is expected to compete for the fifth spot in the Mets' starting rotation.

Lannan (Long Beach, N.Y.) had off-season knee surgery after an injury-riddled 2013 season with the Phillies after spending six years with the Nationals. The Phillies outrighted Lannan after the season, but he refused his assignment and elected to become a free agent, ultimately signing Saturday's deal with his hometown team.

Lannan has amassed a 45-58 record and a 4.12 ERA in 148 starts over the past seven seasons. He expects to be 100 percent healthy for Spring Training.
