Located in the heart of Sevier County, Sigurd was first known as Vermillion. The community started as two villages , with the northern village being called Vermillion, and the southern village being called Sigurd. The two villages named were closely connected by history, schools and incorporation.
The two villages eventually joined to become Sigurd and receive post office services . The Sevier River flows through the edge of the town. Rocky Ford Reservoir was also built to help control the flow of the river, as well as serve downstream users.
In the early years of Sigurd Town, railroad stops were located on the South and North sides of the town. Industry moved into the town in the year 1908, as US Gypsum companies found a place here. Sigurd has now grown into a beautiful and slow paced bedroom community.
Family values and patriotism run deep through the Town of Sigurd.
