Piatra Neamt- from ancient Petrodava to actual city 
Piatra Neamt is located in the historical region of Moldova and is considered one of the most picturesque cities in Romania due to its privileged location in the Eastern Carpathians. The city is surrounded by five mountains, offering all the advantages of a unique environment.
The oldest traces of civilization date back to the stone age. The famous Cucuteni culture (3600-2600 BC) was certified in the area by a remarkable number of archaeological sites and excavations. Even near the city, the ruins of an old Dacian settlement called Petrodava were discovered.
Piatra Neamt is the scene of many cultural events, including the International Theater Festival, which takes place in the spring, the classical music event, Musical Holidays, which takes place during the summer, and many other festivals whose folklore is specific throughout the year.
The city of Piatra-Neamt is mentioned for the first time in 1387 under the name of Kamena (Piatra) in a list of cities maintained by the Russians. Among the internal documents, is mentioned the act of July 31, 1431, by which Alexander the Good gave the Bistrita Monastery two monks and a "House of Christmas from Piatra". In the year 1431 it appears under the name of the Christmas Stone Fair, but it receives the status of a fair only in 1453. The Royal Court of the city of Piatra-Neamt is mentioned in a document of April 20, 1491 which states that it was founded between 1468 and 1475, under Stephen the Great, the Church being built between 1497-1498, and the tower 20 m high in 1499.
Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (1870) considered that the name of Neamt refers to the group of Germans, perhaps even Teutonic knights or Saxons, who built the Neamt Fortress. Also interesting is this aspect that attests the presence of the Germans in this area: through the fifteenth century, German merchants who had made their goods warehouse at the foot of Pietricica, in the town of Piatra (today Piatra-Neamţ), on their way to Bacau, they were stopping in a place of magnificent beauty, to admire the radiance of the roses that grew abundantly here. "Rosen hoff" they told this admired "garden", meaning "the place with roses".
A noteworthy detail is that in the past the city of Piatra-Neamt was frequently affected by calamities such as floods and fires. The fire of May 6, 1847 was followed by other fires that broke out on July 9, 1883, June 14, 1887, July 6, 1889, August 18, 1891, and March 26, 1902, on Cuza-Voda, Carol I and Elena Doamna streets.
At present, the city of Piatra-Neamt is as famous as in the past for its elegance, its tourist objectives, its welcoming locals and its history.
The main tourist attractions in Piatra Neamt are represented by the mountains and lakes in the area, the festivals that take place throughout the year, and many historical buildings, such as the Tower of Stefan or Curtea Domneasca, built in the 15th century during the reign of Stefan cel Mare. Other important tourist attractions are the Museum of History and Archeology, which holds the Cucuteni exhibition - the largest collection of Eneolithic artifacts in southeastern Europe, the Bistrita Monastery, built in the 15th century 8 km west of the city, or the Cozla Park with the zoo and the part of skiing.
