The Academy’s 2023 Annual Events will be held from 23 – 24 November 2023 in Canberra, Australia.

The annual events include:

New Fellows Presentations | Thursday 23 November | 2.00 – 4.00pm

Each year, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia elects the most distinguished social scientists in Australia as Fellows. These New Fellows will join the ranks of over 700 of Australia’s leading researchers and professionals across the social science disciplines.

This event will provide an opportunity to welcome the 2023 New Fellows and to recognise their outstanding contributions to the social sciences. Each New Fellow will have three minutes to discuss their research in an engaging and informative presentation.

2023 Cunningham Lecture | Thursday 23 November | 4.30 – 5.30pm

The Cunningham Lecture is the Academy’s flagship annual public lecture. It is named after Dr Kenneth Stewart Cunningham, the first chairman of the Social Science Research Committee (the Academy’s predecessor organisation). The Cunningham Lecture is presented each year by an eminent social scientist.

The 2023 Cunningham Lecture will be delivered by Professor Susan Danby FASSA. Professor Danby is recognised internationally as one of Australia’s leading experts in early years language and social interaction, childhood studies, and young children’s engagement with digital technologies.

The Academy’s Annual Dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the work of the Academy across the year, recognise the achievements of the 2023 Paul Bourke Award Winners, and welcome the 2023 New Fellows.

2023 Symposium – Digital Society: Social science perspectives for a better future | Friday 24 November | 9.00am – 4.00pm
