EASY CURE guitarist Porl Thompson, one of the founders of the group, has quit. Robert said, “The songs were getting more stark, more minimal and I was beginning to loathe Porl’s lead guitar. I tried to get him to play chords but he didn’t like that… we decided not to have any more rehearsals for a couple of weeks and when we started again, we just didn’t tell him.” They’ve also changed the name of the band. The new trio will be known by the shorter and “less hippyish” name The Cure. Porl will be a member of the Cure again, when he re-joins in 1986.”
