Calophyllum inophyllum and/or Calophyllum tacamahaca

Also known as the Ballnut tree and locally known as “Daok”, the Calophyllum inophyllum is an evergreen tree reaching up to 20+ ft. in height. An ornamental shade tree resistant to salt spray and one of the top choices for use as a windbreaker tree; hardwood and strong used for wood crafts and boat building. Grows in tropical to subtropical regions along coastal areas and inland up to 1,000 ft. elevation.

Nuts are dried and processed for producing high value and high quality oil (Daok Oil or Tamanu Oil) used in cosmetics. Calophyllum inophyllum is the most cultivated and coveted variety of the tree, and the prime species for producing the best quality oil.
