Pelargonium pinnatum
.
Family: Geraniaceae (Geranium)
Distribution: Western Cape, Cedarberg to Albertinia
Habitat: Sandstone slopes and flats, or clay.
National red list: Least Concern
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber - seasonally dormant)
Comments: One of the most elegant of the small and attractive tuberous geophytes that make up the subgenus Hoarea, this delicate beauty flowers in dry midsummer. The plants are often found in wetter slightly shaded or south facing areas, or in seeps, in areas with longer access to moisture than drier slopes (DK pers comm.). Common on mountain slopes in the Southwestern Cape and easily recognised by the neat, silvery pinnnate leaves, even when these are dry.
