Description |
Dungarunga or shrub like, 3m tall. Simple leaf and pinnately compound leaf; simple leaf grown on short stipe; Pinnately compound leaf with 3-5 leaflets, lanceolate, elliptic, long circular or invert ovate elliptic, 5-19cm long, tip blunt and pointed, basal part wedge shaped, hairless, entire, lateral vein distinct; petiolule 1-5mm long. Inflorescence axillary, rarely basidixed, 3-5cm long, 2.5-5cm wide, rarely shorter, the basidixed comparatively long, 14cm long; rachis, peduncle, sepal usually covered by caducous brownish rusty tiny soft hairs; calyx lobe ovate; petal white, long elliptic, about 3-4mm long, smooth; stamen (5-8) 10, slightly unequal in length, connectivum without gland, however, forming extending raised tine in the tip, upper part of filament wide, lower part slightly narrow; ovary hairless, with stipe. Fruit spherical or elliptic, 1-1.5cm in diameter, light yellowish white, turning light red or dark vermilion, semi-transparent when mature, oily glandular dot distinct, both surfaces pale and dark after drying. Flowering: March to May, fruiting: July to September. |

Growing on mountain slopes, river valleys, forests near river beach and thickets. Distributed in Taiwan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan and Guizhou. The medicinal materials are mainly produced in Guangxi. |
