Leverkusen have finally ended Bayern's domination in Germany, denying the giants their 12th straight domestic success.

Thomas Tuchel's side had won every Bundesliga crown since 2013 but have now missed out in Harry Kane's first season at the club.

England's all-time top goalscorer has been denied the long-awaited first trophy of his career, for which he moved to Bayern to win.

However, he has the chance to win the Champions League this term with Bayern facing Arsenal in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

The BayArena was filled with smoke at full-time as fans rushed onto the pitch to celebrate a historic victory.

They took the lead through Victor Boniface before former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka scored a stunner to make it two.

Florian Wirtz added a third with a screamer of his own before scoring another two as Leverkusen cruised to victory to win the title and maintain their unbeaten record.

Alonso's men have incredibly not lost a single game in all competitions this season, setting a new European record in the process.

They are unbeaten in 42 games and have deservedly got their hands on some silverware in unbelievable fashion.

It may be the first step towards a treble for Leverkusen too, as they remain in the Europa League and are in the final of the DFB Pokal.

Their last trophy came in 1993 as they won the German Cup but that long wait has finally come to an end.

Alonso has received no end of plaudits for his role in leading his side to an emphatic Bundesliga success.

And they will be excited for next season too, as the Spaniard has confirmed he will be staying at the club despite interest from Liverpool.

It is a special day for Leverkusen and one that their fans will never forget.
