German Bread Dumplings "Semmelknödel"

Ingredients

for 1 serving

  • 2 hard bread rolls
  • ¼ onion, optional
  • butter, optional
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup tepid milk (75 mL)
  • fresh parsley
  • salt

Preparation

  1. Cut the bread rolls into thin slices.
  2. If using onions, cut them into small cubes and sauté in a little butter.
  3. Put the sliced buns, the egg, the lukewarm milk, the parsley and, if you like, the onions in a bowl and mix to a sticky dough until all the buns are soft.
  4. Now form two approx. 7.5 - 8 cm (3 inch) dumplings.
  5. Boil some water and add salt.
  6. Put the dumplings in and let them steep for 20 minutes.
  7. Take them out of the hot water and serve.
