Egypt's GNU/Linux Market Share Growing From Nothing to 3.4% in a Few Years While Microsoft Loses Monopoly on Desktops/Laptops
Sales of Windows have collapsed and even Microsoft executives take massive salary cuts (amid high inflation and debt issues, with high interest rates on the debt and huge bills from the IRS)
THE situation in Africa was covered here several times so far this month, but what about Egypt, one of the continent's biggest and richer populations (relative to African nations, not MENA)? Well, a decade ago it seemed like Microsoft solidified its grip on desktops and laptops there, making it almost impossible for GNU/Linux to penetrate this market. But Android has since then taken over the market and GNU/Linux is also growing rapidly in recent years, opening a window of opportunity for Free software that comes bundled with distributions. It's hard to say what motivated this transition and why it hadn't happened years prior, but the general trend seems consistent and encouraging (see screenshot below). When we covered Cablegate we showed how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation had interfered with adoption of GNU/Linux in Egypt. Those plane trips to Africa are about money, not charity, and they're about lobbying for Microsoft by bribing local politicians on the cheap.
In a functioning democracy Bill Gates would be sent in a plane to prison, and not just to visit his close friend Jeffrey Epstein. █
