You’re on your knees in the dirt, your wrists bound in front of you with rope that digs into your wrists and makes your fingers tingle. You grit your teeth against the pistol that Rochefort jabs into you temple as you look into Jean’s vibrant blue eyes. He’s on his knees too, blood seeping down his hairline as his fingers seek out yours, squeezing them tightly.

“Where’s the child?” Rochefort hisses and the line of Jean’s jaw clenches as he purses his lips together grimly.

“My love.” He whispers apologetically because he can’t tell Rochefort what he wants to know, his sense of duty won’t allow it.

“I know.” You whisper, your forehead coming to rest against his as Rochefort cocks the weapon. “I’d do the exact same thing.”

There’s a glimmer of you still in there, Aramis can see that defiance behind your eyes as you stand before him clad in a dress that costs more than he earns in a year, your hand resting lightly on Rochefort’s arm.

Your wedding ring glimmers in the light from the chandelier overhead. It’s a garish thing, a gold band with rubies that remind him of the blood that drips from a man’s slashed throat.

“Madam.” He greets you, inclining his head and you don’t react.

“Move along musketeer.” Rochefort says as he spirits you away. “We have more important people to speak with.”

When Aramis comes to you that night, you’re alone in your bedchambers, sitting at a dressing table as you remove the pins that hold your hair in place. Rochforte has sent you home while he attends a gambling house, he’ll be out the rest of the evening.

“Here let me.” Aramis says softly as he steps towards you.

It’s the first time he’s been in your presence alone for over a year. He’s gentle with his touches, delicate as he retrieves each of the pins and sets them down into the porcelain bowl. Your hair falls across your features in loose waves and he finds himself looking at your reflection as his hands comb lightly through the strands. It’s something he used to do after each of your performances, an action you found both soothing and relaxing.

“I never stopped loving you.” You tell him as you meet his gaze in the mirror.

“I know.” He says softly, the edges of his mouth turning up into a sad smile. “I never stopped loving you either.”

Athos doesn’t want to love you. He doesn’t want to feel the warmth blossom in his chest everytime he looks at you or crave your touch like a narcotic but he does, Lord how he does.

You don’t say anything as you raise from the bed, the sheets falling away from your naked body. He prays for strength because already he’s stirring again at the sight of you. His spent is still smeared on your thighs, his love marks littering your thighs from before he begged you to tie his wrists. He’s a weak man he knows it, you must see that in him.

“Athos.” You say softly, as you stand before him, your fingertips trailing along his grizzled cheek. “Come back to bed, let me love you some more.”
