“If You Stay Ready, You Won’t Have To Get Ready”

“One cannot be prepared for something while secretly believing it will not happen” — Nelson Mandela

By definition, to be prepared means: 1. made ready for use. or 2. ready to do or deal with something. In other words, when you’re prepared, most (if not all) of your shit is together. All of your I’s are dotted and your T’s are crossed. You have ran down your list of check points to make sure you have all of your necesseties and everything you need is within arms reach. This sounds like a real life horror story from adult hood but as we chase our goals, adulting & making sure our “house is in order” to make room for our blessings is mandatory.

It’s like asking your parents can the squad come over and play video games all night. The only way that those chances are boosted of turning into a yes is by doing all of your chores without being told to. Our lives work the same way. We ask the universe for all these favors but our life is still a mess. We still hang on to meaningless relationships, we stick around and get abused mentally/physically, our minds can’t fathom the thought of our dreams come true. Until we clean up our house, our dreams, aspirations and desires will never manifest.

Think about the analogy that I used in my last post. When you are in school, each lesson is designed to teach you a specific message. If you don’t understand that message, you won’t level up until you prove to the teacher that you understand the process. Once you proceed to the next level, the difficulty will be increased but if you remember the previously learned lesson, you’ll be able to solve the problem. Unfortunately, on the flip side, if you don’t understand the process or understand how you got a specific outcome/answer, you will have to retake the lesson.

When we ask for certain opportunities, we have to ask ourselves are we ready for this? Just like the night before the first day of school and we’d have our outfit ready, we have to be that prepared while we chase our dream because we never know when that phone call is going to come. Prime example: my good friend, Corderro. Before the pandemic, he was taking classes at ASU and had just picked up a new gig to make money at a car dealership. Fast forward to the first wave of shut downs, his job unfortunately was cut and he started collecting unemployment.

Right then, he could have easily said “fuck it, it’s the pandemic” and allow himself to loathe in his uncomfortable state. But you know what he did instead, he kept pushing. He knew that working the car lot wasn’t the end of the road for him and he kept creating content. He kept in touch with his resources and tapped into different methods of getting his message heard. Like magic, he gets a phone call from KRIS in mid pandemic. Not only did they relocate him to Corpus Christi from Phoenix, AZ, he is currently well on his way to becoming a respected news anchor in Texas.

He could have easily gave into the pressure of the pandemic which would have been completely understandable. But in his mind, the only thing that’s understandable is that he worked too hard to get to where he was and he was not taking “no” for an answer. He showcased his preparedness by tapping into resources to keep his energies up and a determination within himself to achieve his mission.

We may not want to be a news anchor or anything related to media but we all have a purpose for being here right now. We may not be where want to be but our current location isn’t our final destination. We must work on ourselves first in order to prove we are ready for what we ask for. If we are ready for meaning relationships, we must radiate with that energy. If we are seeking new opportunity, we must be dressed for the occasion.

As the Nelson Mandela quote above states, “One cannot be prepared for something while secretly believing it will not happen”. Prepare yourself for what you are asking for believing you are worthy.

Remember: “Impossible stands for I’m Possible”
