Kira Yoshikage, The Star Antagonist of JoJo | Villain Analysis

Kira Yoshikage is the main villain/ antagonist of Jojo Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable, DiU is set in the city of Morioh where Jotaro; Protagonist of JoJo Part 3 visits to investigate Stands and Stand arrows. Kira has since been one of the most fascinating characters in this series and is my favourite villain so far, Everything from his entry to his exit is a treat and honestly saves DiU from being a snoozefest that Stardust Crusaders was. Keep in mind that this post is limited to anime only and I haven’t yet read Part 6 and 7, now let’s get started

SPOILER ALERT!!

Kira VS Dio Brando,Kars,DIO

Kira’s greatest strength stems from his menacing presence and strong personality, David Pro does an incredible job introducing him and adding bits off his murders before he is introduced entirely. This not only makes the anticipation high but points to a bigger problem in Morioh whilst the gang investigates the arrows. I decided to put him up against other antagonists to see where he stands, this doesn’t include physical strength but their position in the anime and their overall character.

Let’s start off with Dio and Kars from S1 which are villains of part 1 and part 2 respectively, Undoubtedly Kira wins by a landslide. Dio sets off a series of events forcing the Joestar family into almost a 50-year struggle, but he himself as a character doesn’t stand out very much. (Stand out, get it?) Kars fulfils the purpose of creating an unfavourable scenario for humans and especially Joseph back in part 2, Joseph is still my favourite JoJo. I just can’t seem to shake off his chadness all this while, adding to it is the quick and satisfying premise of Part 2 as it leaves no stone unturned to entertain us with great fights and especially a great ending to it. Kars is super smart and really fits the vibe of part 2 but gets overshadowed by Wamuu. Wamuu left a lasting impression on the viewers even though he becomes the reason for Ceaser’s demise, his gentlemanly behaviour and respectful fighting style was just too good. Nevertheless, the villains of Jojo start to get more interesting from part 3 as their backstory is fleshed out more.

Up next is DIO, The case with Dio was just sad, to be honest. Dio is shown to be this pure evil man who’s hiding in Egypt away from the Joestars just awaiting their arrival to finish them off once and for all. He has this army of stand users who’ll literally do anything for as much as giving their lives. Dio’s silhouette is what appears throughout 45 episodes and when he is finally revealed he’s just overpowered yet gets destroyed by Star Platinum which apparently can also control time. For me, it was lazy writing and lack of character from Dio who is just Part 1 Dio but a lot more confident and rowdy. J Geil from the same part was so much more important, his 2 episodes were handled well. Death 13 along with Vanilla Ice also were incredibly well done and served their purpose of creating a thrilling experience

Diavolo VS Kira

Now here is where it gets interesting, Diavolo was undoubtedly a stellar enemy. It was a tuff choice between him and Kira for me. I arrived at a conclusion that Diavolo is indeed a better character then Kira but, Yoshikage in the broader aspect just seems so much closer to life. Diavolo’s position as the boss of passione gets challenged and, he sees to it that the threat is neutralized, Everything right from Diavolo’s past, his dual personality all of it just clicks as we witness all hell break loose. Diavolo doesn’t care about his blood relationships, he wants his position to be secured and will go any lengths for it. He kills his own mom and his foster father as well, and he does all of it trapped in seemingly a child-like body. It’s quite evident that Diavolo is the dominant personality in his body and Doppio is just another way for him to stay under the radar. How will you find a person when he literally doesn’t exist?

Diavolo also seems to be really powerful but has his own problems. He’s also the only villain in the entire JoJo series who has multiple fights with different people throughout the anime, His interaction with Rissoto and Bruno excluding his fight with Giorno solidify my statement. He abuses fate to his own liking which makes the epilogue; Sleeping Slaves more meaningful, I’ll get into details if I drop a Part 5 review. Diavolo and Doppio made the experience of watching part 5 golden for me( I can’t stop with the puns)

He’s fearful, He’s powerful and He’s merciless.

But that’s where Kira comes in, Diavolo maybe a better character overall but Kira, in my opinion, was a lot scarier. Unexplained murders happening through the city, A ghost who lost her life to a serial killer 15 years ago and what brings it all together is his hand fetish. Kira Yoshikage displays in less than 15 episodes how you can absolutely hate and love a character at the same time. Kira’s morales are simple, and when you think about it very similar to that of Diavolo’s; To maintain a secret lifestyle that nobody knew about. They literally lived 2 separate lifestyles. Kira’s simple yet quick-witted personality works in his favour and even in tough times he stands undefeated. He fights Star Plat, Echoes and gets beaten but barely escapes by using Cinderella, which was seemingly a filler episode but now makes complete sense why it was introduced to us a couple episodes prior.

Planting bomb into his own son, Murdering anybody who gets to know his identity and his psychopathic behaviours just add more to it. His obsession with hands which started off when he was young and how his nails grow when he suppresses his urges are interesting, leaving that aside even when Kira is killed and his soul is trapped in that ghost town he again tries to kill Reimi by tricking her. I haven’t seen a more terrible person than him and I absolutely love him. Something about serial killers just hits right when it’s done right, Thus comes the end of Kira’s 15 year-long streak

Bites the dust and the entire premise of those bunch of episodes was a treat to watch when I look back at it If somebody says they prefer Diavolo over Kira I’d totally understand it as he was as fire to me as Kira was. Comparing them both the only thing Kira aces in is his Soundtrack which is just the top tier. All that being said, everything combined Kira is just a badass enemy who leaves a lasting impression on you even after you completely finish the Jojo series. I didn’t even mention killer queen throughout because even without his stand he is so much more.

Conclusion

This brings about an end to my post, I finished watchin Part 5 and was shocked to see what it could offer me. Jojo has never been a plot heavy anime but it proved otherwise with Golden wind. I may or may not put up a review on it, but currently i’m watching Konosuba 2 and reading GTO and Berserk.

I plan to read Part 6 before the anime comes out and I’m absolutely hyped for it.

Now imma shut up and go catch up to some AoT and JJK

Thanks for reading, do check out other posts ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
