This ceramic cocktail mug is Munktiki’s interpretation of a tanuki, which is a Japanese racoon dog believed to have transformational powers. In Japanese folklore, the tanuki are mischievous and jolly creatures capable of shapeshifting into humans and other various objects. They are typically depicted with exaggerated genitalia. This tanuki is depicted in a traditional sitting pose and it is wearing a hat.
