WAREHOUSE 13: CCH Pounder shares what it is like to play the mysterious Mrs. Frederic (2010)

During a conference call with Airlock Alpha, CCH Pounder shared a bit on what to expect as the second season of “Warehouse 13” concludes – particularly with Mrs. Frederic’s life hanging in the balance tonight.  It remains to be seen if she will survive the second season.

Talking about how she came to play the enigmatic Mrs. Frederic, Pounder noted that in the past 7 years her career has touched just about every genre in film and television and when offered the role, she thought she should just go for it. Pounder was also drawn to the fact that Mrs. Frederic was so mysterious, not having a background like the other characters on the show, and thought that it might be fun to play someone that no one knew anything about. She admitted that she finds it a bit scary and daunting not having a safety net – a back story to fall back upon – but it is also an exciting challenge as she too wants to discover who is Mrs. Frederic. And who exactly is Mr. Frederic? Is he still alive? Did she take over his job? Also, why is she so fixated on that particular hairstyle?! These are the questions that Pounder has and is curious to find out. Speculating as to what exactly Mrs. Frederic is, Pounder said that she believes Mrs. Frederic is a hologram – despite the fact she can touch things and interact with people — for it would explain how Mrs. Fredericks can transcend time and does not need to enter through a door. Pounder ruefully admitted that portraying Mrs. Frederick is like getting a blank page that said, “Not to be divulged.”

But, for Pounder, there is a thrill in that too.  “I have no clue as I have no idea where she came from, where is she going. Is she human? What is she? . . . So it has been kind of like the hare’s wild ride . . . [but] when you do see her, [you know] something major’s going to happen.”

In the upcoming episode “Buried” which airs September 14th, it will be revealed that Mrs. Frederic’s is sick and, as a result, she begins spewing out information like a computer – in an unrecognizable computer-language. Thus, it will be up to Claudia (Allison Scagliotti) to figure out what Mrs. Frederick is trying to communicate and to see if the Warehouse 13 team can help her. Additionally, in the process, we will learn a bit more about Mrs. Frederic’s past involving Warehouse 2.

Also returning to reprise her role as Dr. Vanessa Calder is Lindsay Wagner, who Pounder found fun to work with. She said, “[Wagner] is a fabulous actor of film and television and theatre and you get to work with a pro — it’s cool.”

Pounder was also quick to point out, other than the fact that she and Mrs. Frederic both wear glasses, they have nothing in common. But she loves portraying such a strong, authoritative woman. Because Mrs. Frederic’s has such strength, for Pounder, the saddest episode for her to work on was the one in which Mrs. Frederick lost her bodyguard.  For Pounder, she said, “It was horrible. I miss him.”

When asked what is her favorite artifact to date, Pounder explained that there are tons of artifacts that the audience has not yet seen and many are quite amazing. Pounder likes the simple ones, like the wallet that talks and influences. She also thought the bronzification machine was pretty extraordinary.

Pounder also shared,I’m kind of tickled by the fact that [“Warehouse 13”] is sort of steeped in history in some way or another and that kind of steam punk look is a huge part of our show. . . I use this computer and to see it in reality is an amazing thing. It is fabulous to look at how they put these keys look like they’re from the old adding machines and then it’s bronzed over. And this case is completely ornate. . . I don’t know where we get out talent for our props and the works, but this stuff is gorgeous . . . fabulous.”

Tip-toeing around the topic of the Regents and their role in “Warehouse 13,” Pounder speculated that the “Regents are ordinary looking people with extraordinary responsibility. . . you [are going to] hear a lot more about the Regents because they are the big decision makers of Warehouse 13.” As for how that part of the mythology was created, Pounder confessed that she did not have a clue.

Talking about the quick resolution of the MacPhearson (Roger Rees) storyline, Pounder thinks that the Warehouse 13’s team is perhaps a bit too confident that they took care of MacPhearson and that Season 3 will most likely explore whether there are lingering problems from whatever MacPhearson was up to. However, Pounder was also quick to point out that if that is a storyline to be further explore, that it remains in the trusty hands of the writers.  Thus, she along with the fans will have to wait and see what is unveiled during the remainder of this season and exactly what is in store next season.

An all new episode of “Warehouse 13” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on Syfy and the season finale of Warehouse 13 airs Tuesday, September 21, next week, at 9:00 p.m.
