Oreocereus doelzianus is less commonly grown than its cousin Oreocereus celsianus, and it has a different growth habit, being much shorter and with many slender stems rather than a few stout ones. But it is a splendid bloomer, with multiple flushes of coral-red flowers during summer and fall. The subspecies sericatus is more densely hairy than the typical subspecies (O. doelzianus ssp. doelzianus). Native to Peru.

Care For Your Plant

WATERING- During the growing season water your plant thoroughly until water flows through the bottom of the pot.  Don?t water again until the plant is completely dried out. This takes different amounts of time depending on the growing conditions. No Soggy Bottoms. Cactus will rot if left in moist soil.

 LIGHT-  Place your plant in a place with bright light or full sun provided it isn?t a hot burning sun. Grow Lamps can be helpful.

 CUTTINGS-  Place your rootless cuttings in dry well draining soil.  Don?t water them for 3 weeks.  After 3 weeks water thoroughly letting the plants dry out between waterings.  Cactus are prone to rot so be sure they dry out between watering. Roots are formed in dry soil.

POTTING-  Pick a pot that will give your plant some growing room.  You?ll be doing yourself a favor by starting with a large pot saving you from transplanting later.
