Fans of the JTU (JAG Television Universe) recently came closer than they know to having Harm and Mack back on their screens. The faithful should not, however, give up hope of seeing the JAG leads resurface on one of CBS’ NCIS series.
NCIS of course was spun off of JAG, in a two-part “backdoor pilot” that introduced Gibbs, DiNozzo, Abby and Ducky (played by Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and David McCallum); watch a scene below. As recently as March, JAG vet John M. Jackson reprised his role as Rear Admiral “A.J.” Chegwidden on NCIS: Los Angeles (in what has turned out to be a bit of a recurring gig). Jackson also appeared in a 2013 episode of NCIS, while Patrick Labyorteaux has popped up on the mothership three times, as JAG‘s Captain Bud Roberts.
But to date — across 28 total seasons of NCISes (NCISeese?) — neither Catherine Bell nor David James Elliott have slipped back into their uniforms. Yet.
“Last year there was a point where Catherine and David were both available, and I was trying to make that work,” NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R. Scott Gemmill tells TVLine. “I forget what episode it was, but I had a little opening, so I had casting check and she was available, and David was available….”
Though that “reunion” (albeit on one of NCIS‘ own offshoots) did not come together, “That still is a goal of mine, to get as many of the original JAG players back in an episode,” Gemmill says. “I have such fun when John’s here, it’d be great to put them all together again. I think the fans would really dig that.”
Bell herself very recently told TVLine that she is holding out hope for what we will call a cross-back-over, as Lieutenant Colonel Sarah MacKenzie, JAGC, USMC.
“We’ve talked about it forever,” said the actress, who now headlines Hallmark’s Good Witch. “I would love to put on my old uniform and show up on NCIS. That would be really fun.”
Echoing the aforementioned logistical/scheduling challenges — “It’s always been like, ‘Let’s do it…,’ ‘No, not now'” — Bell nonetheless has faith that the NCIS franchise that JAG (which ran for 10 seasons) begot will be around long enough to make it happen.
“Maybe one of these days…,” she said. “They’re still going, aren’t they!” (With reporting by Vlada Gelman)

I’d continue to welcome anyone from JAG to show up on the NCIS Mothership, loved having Admiral Chegwidden and LtCmdr Bud Roberts so having Harm & Mac show up would be great – even if (depending on who won that coin toss) they’re retired from the Navy & Marine Corps now.
I want a kick ÷$# series ending with the 2 shows. I expect an all hands on deck from writers, actors, lighting, costumes and camera work to be perfect, NO pressure tho. There’ll be enough time for TPTB to do a little extra to honor 2 well loved shows with an ending as good as the regular episodes. Bring shows full circle. Meanwhile I’m sure there’s some NCIS crisis that needs all retirees recalled to serve Again!!
Please make it so. Thank yo
Bud and Chegwidden have guest starred on the a few of the NCIS shows, unfortunately yet fortunately Catherine Bell has a hit with The Good Witch. The end of JAG p’d me off because there should have been a wedding, we got jipped
please incorporate Mac and Harm into NCIS. They would fit perfectly into the story. Mac and Harm are both lawyers so maybe they could come in to save one of the NCIS characters from some serious crime of which they have been falsely accused. Surely those incredible writers could come up with a great story line.
Can it really be considered a crossover if the show (JAG), is no longer on?
You seem fun.
It is an interesting question though. What would the official term actually be?
I would think for it to be considered a crossover, that both shows would have to still be on and they have story over both. They can’t have that with JAG no longer a series.
It’s more like former JAG stars are guest starring on NCIS.
All that’s needed for it to be a crossover is for one character from one show to turn up in another. There are different types of crossover, but the nature of a crossover is simply that a character “crosses over” into another show.
I don’t know ask the people that worked on the Simpsons/Futurama crossover episode
Yes it is still a cross over.
Even though Law & Order is off the air Law & Order: SVU is still considered a spin-off and it’s still a crossover when Jack McCoy shows up in an episode.
To have Harm & Mac back together would be awesome!!!!! I really hope it eventually works out. Maybe an episode when the Admiral is there to!
The Admital’s reaction to those two would be priceless I’m sure.
Has to happen.
As close as they all were, I’m assuming the Admiral has been in touch with them both (individually or separately if they didn’t stay together) over the years.
Please bring jag back I loved th48 I’m big fan
Yes, huge fan of JAG!! It would be awesome.
I kind of don’t want a resolution to the final moment, but I’d watch. (I say this as someone who doesn’t watch NCIS.)
Watch them end up wandering into MacGyver instead…
One solution: Hetty and the Admiral give into 40 years of feelings and get married. Then everyone from JAG attends the wedding.
Would love to see a reboot of jag🙀
With all the rebooting going on, can’t figure out why a JAG next gen isn’t getting done in the JTU
I honestly don’t like NCIS:NO, but it strikes me that any storyline that would have both Mac and Harm in it should be a crossover across all three NCISes. And maybe it should include Team Scorpion, too. Maybe two weeks of all three series, even.
Bring back Zoe McLellan as Coates as well, that would really confuse people seeing as she was on NCIS: NO as Merri Brody. :-)
I believe Scorpion was canceled or being canceled
Very cancelled.
WouldLOVE to see this. Still miss JAG.
If it happens on NCIS:LA, does that mean Harm and Mac’s coin toss had them ending up in San Diego? ;)
I would love to see Mac & Harm make a guest appearance. I’ve loved seeing the Admiral & Bud [although we didn’t see enough of him]. And Harriet!! Please, can we get her on one of the shows, too?
Yes, pls!
It would have been great to have Harm (being a pilot) and the Admiral and the retirees fly into Mexico on a covert op with Hettie and Nell to rescue Callen and crew.
You know what they say about ,”GoldWings”.
I Miss this show…..still be benge watching
That would be awesome to to the cast of Jag again interact with Ncis . Ncis has been on the air for 15 years . It would been wonderful to what everyone been up to.
My husband and I never missed a JAG Episode. So we would Love to see them join NCIS. I personally think if Harm and Mack came back as a couple it would send ratings through the Roof. Of course I believe it’s time Gibbs findss Love too!! He certainly deserves someone to love again. 😊
I, for one, was very excited when I saw John Jackson had a recurring roll on NCIS LA. I can see where a plot where Heady is facing trial and she calls her old friend Admiral Checwidden, who in turn calls together his best staff of the past Vice-Admiral Rabb and Colonel Mackenzie.
Some tying up those loose ends would be sooooooo appreciated!!! Left us w a coin toss.
McGhee interupted Bud’s update!! “What happened with Harm & Mac?”
Remember that? Ugh, McGee!
You left us with a coin toss. Yes, tie up those loose ends!!!
And keep McGhee away from them, he interrupted Bud when he was asked about Harm & Mac!!!
I never forgave him haha
I think the creatives have still not fully grasped the potential behind what you have dubbed the JTU and wich encompasses several TV shows by now. Crossovers from active and inactive shows will strengthen it and give much more longevity, even in terms of new shows that can be spun off. If done right, this could be the crime/action version of the TV-MCU. Even though I am not watching all of the shows I would have welcomed some of the Scorpion team transitioning to other shiows after it was cancelled for example.
I’m a JAG fan, in fact, I love the show. I think both the fans and the show, deserved a better end and.. well, the reunion crossover at NCIS would be the way to catch up on how “fate kept H&M togeteher forever”. I`d love the reunion crossover.
