We have been working on a major project proposal on the river Thames in London to electrify the cruise vessels. Not any easy task as there is no land along the river for developing connection solutions and installing infrastructure. As well the cost to build new infrastructure shoreside, and in this case we estimated it could be expected to reach over £150M in capital, where our Our Smart Hubs can enable the same for £20M in half the time. So whats the solution? Take a short inspiring read of the article here as we demonstrate how the Smart Hubs and our infratech solutions are pioneering fast, affordable, flexible infrastructure options enabling new technologies for ports and cities. Vertiport landing fees will be a critical factor in the overall cost per mile of AAM services to the public - we certainly cannot afford the four digit fees that heliports charge today. To understand these fees, we need to understand how much will it cost to build a vertiport, according to its size. We explore these costs in our new infographic. 🌊 BlueFloat Energy is proud to have contributed to the National Offshore Wind Energy Industry Impact Study, a pivotal report highlighting the crucial role offshore wind could play in New Zealand's journey towards net zero emissions and economic development if deployed at scale.  In close collaboration with industry leaders, infrastructure providers, and economic development agencies, BlueFloat Energy New Zealand commissioned this study conductedby PwC. The analysis sheds the light on the immense potential of offshore wind to drive economic growth, create jobs, and reduce carbon emissions in #Aoteroa. ➡ Key findings from the study reveal that #offshorewind could contribute $50 billion to the country’s GDP by 2050 and generate 10,000 jobs during construction phase, along with 2,000 ongoing jobs in operations and maintenance.  By deploying offshore wind technology, New Zealand could harness an outstanding wind resource off its coasts. Building on Aoteroa government's commitment to establishing offshore wind regulations by the end of 2024, the stage is set for BlueFloat Energy New Zealand to drive substantial progress in the country’s offshore wind sector. We are ready to build on  more than 3 years of development activities that we have been undertaking in the country. BlueFloat Energy has focused on building a strong local team, technical site assessment, regulatory discussions, supply chain analysis, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with indigenous groups to drive forward the offshore wind agenda and usher in a new era of green energy development. 🌏💨 Download the full study here to learn more about the opportunities of this rapidly evolving sector in Aoteroea 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/gxxuGTHs #OffshoreWindNewZealand #RenewableEnergy #NetZeroImpactStudy

Some more exciting project news to share with you today! Along with our project partners at UK Power Networks and LCP Delta, Marine Zero is developing a completely new approach to increasing London's flexible energy capacity by developing new income streams for vessel and quay operators. Using a principle similar to night storage heaters, battery-powered vessels on the Thames could store green energy when it is cheap to do so, such as when the wind is blowing or sun is shining, and feed it back to the grid during peak electricity hours. The approach could help increase the capital’s flexible energy capacity and reduce peak electricity demand. The project, which is in its initial ‘discovery’ or scoping phase, supports the Port of London Authority's transition to net zero emissions and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s pathway for London to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030. Thames vessel and quay operators will be surveyed over the coming weeks to identify and map out their needs. This will allow power suppliers to plan and complete any works needed to facilitate the move to cleaner vessel and river operations along the River Thames. The outcomes of this groundbreaking project could shape a new whole-system planning framework for the nation’s rivers, canals, and waterways, offering insights for decarbonisation and electrification that could be replicated across the UK. Electric Thames has been supported by Ofgem's Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF).  Delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, the SIF programme taps into the best of UK and international innovation and aims to align with other public innovation funding for the benefit of customers across the United Kingdom. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞? It's a deceptively simple question Infrastructure has no universal definition, no universal classification nor taxonomy. In the absence of a clear understanding of infrastructure, trying to understand "sustainable infrastructure" is no easy feat Yet, the Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability's Sustainable Infrastructure Event in DC yesterday was a masterclass in not only defining but also unpacking sustainable infrastructure Some key takeaways: 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 • Infrastructure that supports positive social, environmental (incl. climate), governance & financial outcomes over its entire lifecycle • Sustainable infrastructure principles have been codified in a series of infrastructure standards; beginning with the "Equator Principles" in 2003 and including the IFC - International Finance Corporation's "Performance Standards", Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII) Partnership Standards, FAST-Infra Label and the Blue Dot Network 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞? • It starts with planning. The Australian state of Victoria's 30-year master plan for infrastructure is one such example • Stakeholder engagement is also key, infrastructure is more than just the project financier, government and developer. Community engagement matters • Sustainable infra principles must not only be applied at the project and financing level but critically, must include the enabling environment and capacity-building initiatives • Infrastructure is a long-term investment (a bridge, a road, an airport, etc. have long life spans). We must collect data over the course of its life cycle and use it to understand and improve sustainability outcomes. What we measure, we can improve 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞? • Any of the aforementioned standards are a good baseline. The key is applying the same set of standards throughout the project life cycle • Standards like QII, FAST and Blue Dot capture the core principles of the standards preceding them. FAST, Blue Dot and others are working to make their standards interoperable 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐩? • Projects that have been certified as compliant with a set of standards (e.g. FAST and Blue Dot) can reduce the burden for investors, government and communities to determine if they are truly sustainable. In the future, projects that are certified could be bundled together to incentivize private investment Congratulations to Elizabeth Losos, Philip Hollingsworth & team for one of the best infra events I've attended Thank you to William Phillips, Cristina Contreras Casado, Anthony Kane, ENV SP, Russell Singer and Pratima Singh for your insights, wisdom and time #sustainableinfrastructure #infrastructure #standards #privatecapitalmobilization

How Transport Malta is willing to improve air quality for 17,000 families in the Grand Harbour area? With the completion of the high-voltage underground cables, cruise liners visiting Malta will soon benefit from shore-to-ship electricity systems, cutting 90% of their air pollution. This monumental effort is part of the Grand Harbour Clean Air Project (GHCAP), a €49.9 million environmental investment aimed at improving air quality for 17,000 families in the area. As part of GHCAP, Infrastructure Malta is laying the groundwork for cruise liners and cargo ships to switch off their gasoil- or heavy-fuel-oil-fired engines and plug into shoreside electricity while berthed at the port. Co-financed by the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility, this initiative is a testament to our commitment to a greener future. Infrastructure Malta remains dedicated to advancing sustainable infrastructure and fostering a cleaner environment for generations to come. Thank you Norbert Grech for providing the insides.
