Fixed Drives
A fixed drive is one that is permanently attached to a computer. For example the hard drive within a laptop is considered fixed because it is integral to the computer and couldn't function without it. It can not be easily removed and there for is your primary disk to save all of your important documents to because there is no chance of you losing it. |
Data Transfer RateThis is the speed in which data from the hard drive can be selected and then used by the CPU, the faster that this can be done means that there is less of a waiting time for the consumer so a hard drive with a really fast clock speed means that it can pull data really quickly from the depths of its memory bank. It also represents how fast data can be written onto the hard drive so if you are saving something onto it, it will be much faster for it to complete that task if the transfer rate is faster because more information can be taken at the same time.

CapacityHard drive capacity is how many files it can hold before it becomes full. A normal sized hard drive is around 500Gb which is 50000mb of data . The average song is around 14mb or less so image how many songs you could have saved to your hard drive. if you are working in film and photography these files take up much more room than music so you might consider buying a hard drive that is 1000gb also known as 1tb (Terabyte) this is 2x the storage but can also be much more expensive as drives are priced at how much data they can hold. There is no harm in getting a bigger hard drive but think carefully because if your hard drive is too small you won't be able to save things to it and might find your self in a sticky situation with 100 usb flash drives laying around because your fixed storage is full already.
