Juniperus chinensis 'Angelica Blue' is a cultivar of Chinese juniper, an evergreen conifer originally native to eastern Asia. Typically a bushy, conical tree that grows up 50-60' tall, the 'Angelica Blue' cultivar is noted for its compact dwarf growth habit, which makes it perfect for smaller yards, foundation plantings, and hedges; 'Angelica Blue' grows to only three to five feet tall and can spread up to 5-10' wide, with pale, silvery blue-green foliage.
Growing best in a variety of medium-moist, well-drained soils Chinese junipers are dioecious, meaning that individual plants can be male or female; males junipers produce pollen cones while female plants produce small, blue-black like berry cones giving winter interest; the silvery color of 'Angelica Blue' will also brighten in colder weather, adding further multi-season appeal. With a low-growing, wide-spreading habit, 'Angelica Blue' juniper makes for an excellent addition to low borders, foundation plantings, and even bed plantings, since it can grow as a tall ground cover. As an added bonus, hedges and borders of 'Angelica Blue' Chinese juniper are resistant to salty soils, drought, cold, and deer damage.
