Jamie Redmond recently completed Masters degrees in Landscape Architecture and Environment & Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research is focused on social perception and participatory planning for community restoration, as well as analyzing the impacts of stormwater policy on aging suburban waterways. Jamie has a background in design and sustainable architecture, and her work is driven by the desire to understand how humans interact with the built and natural environment. With teaching experience at the university level and with elementary school children, she is an advocate for interdisciplinary education that promotes STEM, the arts and creativity.

PARTICIPATORY LANDSCAPE PLANNING IN URBAN NATURAL AREAS

Understanding community perceptions of natural areas is key to identifying and building successful stakeholder relationships early in the planning process. This talk will discuss the value of natural spaces from a citizen’s perspective versus the ecologist, planner and policy-makers perspectives, and the importance of developing a coalition with a shared vision for urban natural areas.
