Vol Profile: Fred Weary

VOL PROFILE: After you ankle injury last year, is there any hesitation in the back of your mind about re-injury to that ankle?
Weary: "Not at all. I've put everything I have into my ankle, and I know the Lord has helped me up to where I want to be and I'm just going to go out and play football up to the best the I can do and do everything that I can."

VOL PROFILE: Whom do you look to for motivation?
Weary: "Really I look to myself for motivation. I think the biggest motivation I have is going through all the ups and downs that I've been through while I've been at UT, I think that's what really keeps me motivated, understand that despite what I've been through, I've always kept my head up and kept moving toward the things I wanted to accomplish."

VOL PROFILE: Are there any certain goals you've set for yourself this year?
Weary:
"I've set a lot of goals internally for myself. First of all, to go out and be the best athlete that I can be on the football field and do my best for the University of Tennessee. On a personal basis, I do have a lot of things that I want to accomplish this year by coming out and proving that I'm still in the best shape that I can be."

VOL PROFILE: "What is your favorite moment or most memorable moment on the field?
Weary:
"My most favorite moment would be that 1998 Florida game when everybody rushed the football field, just being there and feeling that excitement that went through the stadium at the time made me say wow, that was a real big one."

VOL PROFILE: What would you say the key to the offensive lines success is this year?
Weary:
"I think the biggest key is going to be for us to go out and do the unknown, what's not expected of us this year, coming from a season the was kind of disappointing on the offensive front. So for us to come into this year and know what we need to do, and knowing the things that we need to accomplish is going to be very big for us and I think will take us through the football season."

VOL PROFILE: Could you tell me a little more about your work with the Boys and Girls Club?
Weary:
"I've worked with the Boys and Girls club each summer that I've been at the University of Tennessee. The biggest thing I did was administering a reading program to the kids, and I think set aside from doing that I really gave them someone to look up to. A lot of the kids come from a single parent home and come from project areas, and I think a gave them the feeling that there are people out there that care about them and if they just keep their head up and keep striving toward the best things they can accomplish and achieve a lot of things in life.

VOL PROFILE: What would you like people to know about you?
Weary:
"If I could tell them anything, I would want them to know that I am dedicated to everything that I do. I want to do everything 110%, if possible. I'm also kind hearted to things in society, just growing up and living a good life.

VOL PROFILE: What would you like to be remembered for after you graduate?
Weary:
"I would like to be remembered for the strength that I showed to overcome all the obstacles that I had to overcome. Since my freshmen year I had a lot of injury problems that set me back a lot, but I think I overcame those by my wanting to do good, and wanting to do better. Motivating myself and knowing that there are a lot of things out there in life that can be accomplished.

VOL PROFILE: What are you interests outside of football?
Weary:
"I would say my biggest interest is spending time with my family, I have a little brother that lives with my mom, and just spending and enjoying time with them.
