This colorful species is found in the northern parts of North America and Europe. In Vermont it can be found with relative ease on flowering willows in April and May.
Identification: This is particularly hairy bee with dirty yellow hairs on the thorax and T1, long, black hairs on the head, and bight orange hairs on the tibia.
Similar Species: Compare Milwaukee Mining Bee (Andrena milwaukeensis), which share a similar hair color on the thorax, but Milwaukee Mining Bees also have orange hairs on T1 and T2. Males of closely related Frigid Mining Bee (Andrena frigida) are quite similar, but lack the orange or reddish hind tarsi of Clark’s Mining Bees.
