RICHMOND, Va. – VCU is restocking with more local talent.
Brandon Jennings (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Rams, Head Coach
Ryan Odom announced Friday.
Â
The 6-foot-4 Jennings is the 35
th-ranked point guard in the country, and the 13
th-ranked player in Virginia, according to 247Sports, and chose VCU from an offer list that included Louisville, Colorado State, Richmond and others.
Â
"Brandon is a big-time all-around person. He's an excellent basketball player, a great student and a great representative of St. Christopher's and his family, and we couldn't be more proud to have him join us," Odom said. "From a basketball perspective, he's an excellent guard who can shoot it from behind the arc, and excellent passer, excellent defender. He's got size for his position and we know that he's going to be an excellent addition to our team next year. "
Â
Jennings averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game last season for nearby St. Christopher's. He also starred for Coach Ty White and the Team Loaded AAU program over the summer.
Â
A left-hander, Jennings possesses a 7-foot-2 wingspan, and should fit right into an Odom system that values length on both sides of the ball.
Â
In a few short months, Odom has signed a number of Richmond-area standouts, including transfers
Roosevelt Wheeler,
Jason Nelson and
Joe Bamisile. Odom's first VCU squad also includes 2022-23 holdover and Varina-product Fats Billups III.
